Have you ever been hit in the same spot so many times that every hit felt worse than the the last? The force of each is equal but the pain increases with each hit, even a nudge seemed like a blow. The only thing that can heal it is time, even then you become aware of it.  It is almost as if you keep expecting it.  I wish I had kept that in mind.

“I’m just a notch on your bedpost but you’re just a line in a song” -Fall Out Boy

It almost seems like an injustice when a series of unfortunate events start occurring one after the other.  It seems like a slow, painful death. Something like organ failure.  Your heart goes first, your brain, and the rest of the body follows. Each event causes the downfall of one crucial part.  In the end, it seems like you are left with nothing.  When things out of your control begin to happen and somehow the world keeps spinning.  It may not be the end of the world but your world has certainly reached a halt. We often forget that there is no such thing as darkness, just the absence of light.

There comes a time in your life when you realize you’ve held on for far too long.  It might be a song that played at a crucial time, the perfect words, or just a cup of something warm with the right soul.  When you realize grace and integrity are more important, once you lose either of those things they are impossible to recover.  Art, beauty, music, and faith try to knock at your door.  It may have been the words of many or the return of a crucial soul.

“What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies” -Aristotle
